NOVA Townhall asks Who The Heck Is Vern McKinley?

A nice write up of support for Vern McKinley from “joe” at the NOVA Townhall blog:
Prior to meeting him at the gun show, my only familiarity with Vern McKinley was based on a local Republican event where he addressed the local committee, and my impression was that Vern speaks like a regular guy - not a “political orator.” For me, this is not a negative, because I am more and more interested in the notion that our government is supposed to be one where regular citizens make the decisions. Furthermore, our current political leadership in America is a minefield of “orators” whose heads are firmly implanted where the sun don’t shine.
Vern carries a well-worn copy of the U.S. Constitution in his jacket pocket, and in our conversation he noted first of all that “home rule doesn’t override the Second Amendment.”
But his disagreements with Frank Wolf extend far beyond the issue of gun rights.
Vern is an attorney whose focus is on macroeconomics, advising a client base of international financial institutions. While home from business travel before the 2006 elections, he happened to see a debate between Frank Wolf and Democratic challenger Judy Feder. In the following months, Vern did some online research at Vote Smart and found he only agreed with Frank on 20-25% of his votes.
Vern’s assessment: “It’s an urban legend that Frank Wolf is a good conservative.”

10th District Blogger Supports McKinley, Criticizes Wolf
Filed Under 2008 Election, Frank Wolf, Gun Control, News Items, big government | Leave a Comment
The blogger at apocryph.org has taken positive notice of Vern McKinley’s campaign and has some harsh criticism of Frank Wolf.
A while back I mentioned Vern McKinley’s 10th district congressional bid. He’s gathered enough signatures to make it on the ballot for the Republican primary, and is gearing up to fight the Feckless Wonder, congressman Frank Wolf, with whom I am not amused.
If you would like to see Frank Wolf turned out and replaced with a small-government, go-to-hell-I’m-keeping-my-guns Republican, contribute to Vern McKinley for Congress. I just did. Even Dick Heller of Heller vs. DC fame is supporting him.
Also, check out his earlier posts criticizing Wolf:
The first article above articulates one of the very reasons Vern McKinley is running against Wolf: Wolf’s support of wasteful government programs. Vern understands the necessity for true conservative limited government, especially at a time when the economy is suffering as it is today.

Vern McKinley, Republican challenger to Congressman Wolf in the 10th Congressional District, earned a perfect rating of 100% by the Virginia Gun Owners Coalition (VGOC). The rating was based on responses to a survey of federal legislative priorities for the VGOC on a range of issues regarding the right to keep and bear arms, including the Washington, DC gun ban, the Brady Act, background checks, concealed carry and gun free school zones.
Congressman Wolf is probably best known among 2nd Amendment advocates in Virginia for a 2004 vote against a repeal of the Washington, DC gun ban. At that time, the VGOC awarded Congressman Wolf its “Hall of Shame Award” as he joined Congressman Tom Davis of the 11th Congressional District as the only Republicans in the Virginia House delegation voting against the repeal.
The issue of the 2nd Amendment is in the news this week because of the Supreme Court’s review in the Heller case. For the first time in 70 years, the Court will consider whether the Constitution grants an individual the right to own a gun.
Just this past weekend, McKinley spoke at mass meetings of the Warren County and Loudoun County Republican Committees. He talked to many gun owners who have this issue at the top of their list of priorities and who remember Congressman Wolf’s vote. McKinley noted his hope that “the Supreme Court will restate what is painfully obvious from the plain words of the 2nd Amendment: the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
