Great Falls Connection Report On 10th District Fund Raising
Filed Under 2008 Election, Fund Raising, Media, News Items | Leave a Comment
The Great Falls Connection reported on Virginia’s 10th Congressional District candidate fund raising last week.
U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10) and Democratic challenger Judy Feder raised nearly the same amount of money and significantly more than their primary opponents during the first three months of 2008.
Wolf has $715,358 headed into a primary against Ashburn Republican Vern McKinley, who has raised $18,325 overall. Feder has $700,046 to face Air Force veteran Mike Turner, who has raised $82,193 overall, in the Democratic primary.
Both contests take place June 10 and will determine the major political party candidates for Virginia’s 10th
Congressional District seat. Independent candidate Neeraj Nigam, who has raised $150, is also running in the general election.
Candidates emphasized fund raising to different degrees depending on their own success.
McKinley said he wasn’t surprised by the relatively small amount of money he raised, especially since he is challenging an incumbent in a primary.
“That is the result of running against a 28-year incumbent. It is going to be a challenge. I looked at Congressman Wolf’s records and he only raised $10,000 to $15,000 during his first campaign,” said McKinley, who expects to collect about $50,000 overall.
